Whose Needs?
Females have been caretakers and nurturers for as long as there have been babies. We become fiercely protective of our children—biological or adopted.
Pleasing our children—and others—can be a full-time job if we allow it. That’s why it’s so important to set boundaries for yourself and those around you. As a working mother balancing the demands of family and a job, you have less time and space within which to draw those boundaries. Your life is a marathon, not a sprint. To win, we must learn to pace ourselves. Make yourself as important as your children, your partner, and your work.
Self-C oaching Break: Ask the Right Questions
Knowing how to ask yourself the right questions can help determine if you’re on the right track for your life and your career, and if you’re making decisions that are right for you.
♦ Is this the right thing to do at this time, or ever, in my life?
♦ How will I know? What will be the measure?
♦ Is there a better time to do this?
♦ Is this right for me as a mother?
♦ Is this right for me as an associate?
♦ Is this right for my child’s overall well-being?
♦ Will I be happier, healthier, or better in any way if I agree to this?
♦ Is there a short-term or long-term gain?
♦ How can I measure my success if I agree to do this?
